Focus Groups at All Saints, Street Health and Gateway Shelter

We had a fantastic discussion with representatives from All Saints Church-Community Centre and Street Health in the Moss Park neighbourhood on June 15, hearing incredible insights from many people who had longstanding relationships to the Moss Park area. People shared stories about growing up in the neighbourhood, using local programs and services, volunteering in the community and working nearby. Their stories highlighted barriers to feeling welcome in the area and what they would like to see in a new community centre. Some individuals shared that they would love to see a rooftop community greenhouse. One participant chimed in, requesting “community movie nights.”

Community Organizers had a great time connecting with 20 individuals at the Gateway Shelter the following day on June 16. Many participants are currently volunteering at organizations in the Moss Park neighbourhood, sparking a conversation about how the new facility should provide employment for local residents. One participant said “we could walk around and ensure everything is going smoothly, help with keeping the space clean and welcoming, provide classes and workshop instruction.” Thanks to both groups for some great discussions!
