Ten residents of all ages came together to share their vision for Moss Park’s future on May 30. They had a strong desire for the community centre to be responsive to the community and a model for others to follow. Some of the priorities talked about included environmental design, programming for seniors and youth and the need for gathering spaces. Most importantly, they want to make sure the lion out front stays!
“I’m going to be 65 this year and I’ll be retiring,” said Tony. “It would be really nice to have a place to go, to keep busy, where I can contribute. Around the holidays, a lot of seniors in this neighbourhood don’t have anywhere to go. It would be so nice to have a community place to go, have a holiday dance. A lot of seniors here live alone in their apartments, it would be better for us to get together”.
“I’ve lived in this neighbourhood most of my life,” said Connie. “I have nine grandchildren, they’re always visiting me and I love taking them to the park. But it needs more stuff to do for kids of different ages, for kids with disabilities. An after school program, support for young parents, we need to help each other out as much as we can.”
